One of our largest and most complex projects of 2025 was this full barn conversion in Hockering, Norfolk. The homeowners had lived at the property for over 22 years, using the ground floor of the barn as a garage while the upper level remained unused and in a poor state of repair.
As the condition of the barn continued to decline, the decision was made to fully transform the space into something practical, durable, and enjoyable for the whole family. This involved significant structural alterations, including lowering floor levels, replacing the roof, and reconfiguring the internal layout.
The result is a beautifully converted barn that has been given a new lease of life, now serving as a dedicated gym and creative hobby space, while retaining elements of the building’s original character.
Client Vision
The customers wanted to rescue the barn and create a flexible space that could be enjoyed by both them and their children. Their vision was to combine a dedicated home gym with a creative workspace that could adapt to different needs.
Preserving the barn’s history was an important part of the brief. Wherever possible, original materials were reused, with our team carefully removing, assessing, and selecting suitable timber beams. These were then repurposed as part of a feature partition, allowing the finished space to honour the building’s past while meeting modern-day requirements.
